Autocracy spells the death of democracy. It has occurred in earlier democratic experiments such as in Greece and the Roman Republic. It is now appearing in the United States. Painted before the U.S. election of 2020, I felt this was the last chance to stop it. Since then this existential threat still exists. These are dangerous times for reason and civility.
The painting is a compilation and arrangement of several original drawings created at different times with pen on paper. They were then photographed and edited together on a computer using photo editing software. The coloration phase of the work was completed by creating a copy of the completed edited sketch and then coloring it in with colored pencils. The transfer of the final design to canvas was accomplished with a computer projector directly onto a blank canvas.
